Scottish Traditional Harp Music with Anne Macdearmid
Saturday August 9th - 15th 2008 Isle of Raasay
Love the clarsaich? This is a holiday for those who wish to learn or extend their knowledge of the wonderful heritage of Scottish clarsaich music. Who better to learn and explore the solo and ensemble repertoire with than Scotland's finest exponent - Anne Macdearmid!
The holiday is situated on the enchanting Isle of Raasay and you will stay in the lovely Raasay Hotel http://isleofraasayhotel.co.uk/ which overlooks the Isle of Skye and the impressive Cullin mountains. Anne will introduce you to the music and songs of Raasay, Skye and the Western Highlands. There will be a visit to Skye's Gaelic college, Dunvegan Castle and the many places of historic interest on the Isle of Raasay itself. Margaret Knight will join Anne to give lessons on technique and singing with the harp. The Raasay hotel has an excellent menu of either resturant or bar meals. The chef makes the most fantastic cakes!
When you are feeling the need of some fresh air the Highland Music Holidays mini bus will take you to some of the sights on Raasay and the surrounding area of Skye and Lochalsh. There are some fabulous walks on Raasay including the ascent of Dun Caan where you can get spectacular views of Skye and the Cullin Mountains and the Hebridean Islands to the North West.
The cost of this holiday is £495 for half board accommodation( single suplement applies) Harp hire is £50 for the week should you wish to have a trouble free journey to the Kyle of Lochalsh.For those flying to Inverness, we can meet you at the airport or you can take the scenic train journey from Inverness to Kyle. For those who wish to drive, you can leave your car at the ferry terminal - well its just a small car park actually - or take it over on the ferry from Skye.

Margaret Knight has world wide experience in bringing together harpers and harpists of all ages and abilities. If you are a budding professional or a complete beginner you will be challenged and encouraged.
The music studied will be from all over the world and span four centuries - solo and ensemble, encorporating all aspects of technique, harp care and music advice.There will be a visit to one of Scotland's renowned clarsaich makers. We guarantee that you will return home inspired and enriched!

Solo song with Ian and Jennifer Partridge

Take a deep breath! This is a wonderful and rare opportunity to learn the art of song and singing with tutors Ian and Jennifer - world renouned brother and sister duo. The holiday is for everyone, young and old, beginners and those who have taken lessons and enjoyed singing solo or in choirs - in fact anyone who loves to sing!
Bring music of your own choice of music whether it be English, French or German song, opera or folk songs, songs from musicals or modern ballads. There is always somthing to learn about your favourite music and you will be inspired to learn new pieces.
There will be plenty of madrigal, choral, duet and solo music scores to sift through and Highland Music Holidays arranges a small concert towards the end of the week...........time to show off and listen to your favourites from the week.

Half Term Family Holiday
Whilst the budding young musicians enjoy making music together, the adults can also play.................at being a tourist in Scotland's most beautiful corner! This holiday is designed for younger musicians and all instruments and percussion(aged 6 to 15). When the parents are out visiting gardens,Brochs,castles,wildlife centres and generally having a good time,the young musicians will work together towards a ceilidh at the close of the week. All instruments are welcome and we can arrange hire instruments for those wishing to travel light.
Children may of course choose to leave their parents at home - thats fine too! Our tutors are experienced,qualified and generally great fun!
